After ‘Ozark,’ Julia Garner to Star in ‘The Royal Hotel’ From the Producers of the Oscar-Nominated Film, ‘The Power of the Dog’

One of the breakout performances from Ozark was that of Julia Garner’s. Surely, she showcased her talents as an amazing and immensely talented actress. However, she established herself as a worthy cast member within the Netflix universe as well. She received her own TV show, Inventing Anna, through which she portrayed her acting skills in a leading role. But her talents cannot be restricted to just TV shows. So now Julia Garner has been cast in a new movie alongside huge names in the industry.

Let us take a look at her new project.

Julia Garner lands a new role

The Royal Hotel, a social thriller from The Assistant writer-director Kitty Green, was bought by Neon on Wednesday for North American distribution. Julia Garner will be working with Jessica Henwick in the film. Hugo Weaving also appears in the film.

See-Saw Films, which most recently produced the Oscar-nominated The Power of the Dog, is producing the film, which will begin filming this summer in Australia.

What’s the film about?

The Royal Hotel is based on actual events and follows best friends Hanna (Garner) and Liv (Henwick) as they travel around Australia. Liv persuades Hanna to take a temporary live-in job behind the bar at The Royal Hotel’s tavern.

Minds behind the film

Oscar Redding (Van Diemen’s Land) and Green collaborated on the writing. Emile Sherman and Iain Canning of See-Saw are producing alongside Liz Watts and Kath Shelper of Scarlett Pictures.  Simon Gillis of See-Saw will serve as executive producer.

Screen Australia, in collaboration with the South Australian Film Corporation, are also investing in the film, which is being sponsored with help from Screen NSW. Outside of Australia, HanWay and Cross City Films are handling international sales.

The Inventing Anna star has also been receiving high acclaim for her role in the last season of Ozark. Many consider her role as Ruth to be the standout of the show. Stream Ozark on Netflix and let us know if you like her too.
