The change of Geralt from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth has been a hot topic of debate. When The Witcher Season 3 came out, fans thought it would hint at this major transformation of this iconic character. Considering the Continent is a world of mages, potions, curses, and all things magic, it could lead to this physical change. However, nothing like that happened, and the season ended with the mutant and Jaskier starting their journey to find Ciri. But putting all these burning thoughts of viewers to rest, the producer came forward to explain this big change in canon.

The Witcher producer, Tomek Baginski sat down with Wyborcza for a Q&A session. During this conversation, he talked about the theory of fans that Season 4 would take place in a multiverse. Fans came up with the same to explain Cavill passing the torch of Geralt of Rivia to Liam Hemsworth. However, Baginski rejected the idea of a multiverse, citing the fifth volume of Andrzej Sapkowski’s fantasy saga.

The Polish illustrator said the fifth book, The Lady of the Lake, changes the entire story’s perspective and narrative framework. “Suddenly, at the beginning of the book, we learn that everything we’ve read so far might not have been true,” said Baginski. He continued to add that this concept is not similar to the current theory of multiverse, where many “many different realities” exist, absolutely out of nowhere. This discards the multiverse theory that seems to have no place in the upcoming season.

From what the 47-year-old explained, it seems the fresh face of the White Wolf will not include a “multiverse”. However, Baginski did point out how writers will change Geralt’s arc in the upcoming season which features Hemsworth.

The Witcher readers might be familiar with the fifth and final book of the story. The book takes place after hundreds of years when Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer lived. Since so much time had passed, people interpreted their legendary story from different perspectives. According to the executive producer, it would simply make sense if any character’s physical appearance changed because the story got filtered through time.

“Maybe Ciri had a different eye color, was a different character, and these events looked different from the point of view of the elves,” explained Baginski. Meanwhile, this statement of the creator has once again made it clear they are very much taking the source material seriously.
