Netflix’s The Witcher is going through a critical phase at the moment. While on one hand, Season Three of the show is subject to poor reviews and critical reception, Season Four has a world to build and a story to tell. Moreover, now that the titular character of the Witcher world, Geralt, played by Henry Cavill has been recast, the show is in unchartered territory. As such, the show must look to introduce certain changes to its story and dynamics to stay afloat. And after the third season, sparing Geralt, if anyone has the capability to build the world, it is Freya Allan’s Ciri.

Ciri went through quite a journey and character trajectory through Season Three. However, now she appears to be heading in a different direction than what fans expected her to.

Ciri, portrayed by Freya Allan, has already displayed a potential for darkness, which has been subtly hinted at throughout the series. The end of season three was the lowest point in the show’s history in terms of viewership and ratings. However, it brought about a turning point internally when Ciri sought refuge in the Korath Desert, pushing herself to her limits and igniting her curiosity about fire magic. This change aligns with the show’s interpretation of the prophecy, implying that Ciri’s ancestry is connected to the Falka.

Additionally, her affiliation with the Rats, a group known for their inclination towards violence in the source material, further intensifies the path that her character is embarking on. This departure, from her virtuous nature, could potentially spark both controversy and captivation as Ciri’s story unfolds. Therefore, it is pretty much given that the upcoming season of the show will take on a darker and grittier approach.

Henry Cavill etched a name for himself in The Witcher fandom by staying true to the source material. The actor trained hard and brought on a certain charisma that became synonymous with Geralt. He also took on sword fighting and skill lessons to perfect his role. Now that Liam Hemsworth is on the scene, fans are yet to catch a glimpse of him as Geralt. Except for a few AI-generated pictures, the wider public has never seen Liam Hemsworth in Geralt’s attire or attitude.

However, Liam Hemsworth has said that he has deep respect and admiration for Henry Cavill. Additionally, the actor is taking up rigorous training to do justice to the character. Nonetheless, given the disastrous ratings of the finale and season three as a whole, Hemsworth has a lot of work to do in winning over the fandom.
