The family dynamic in The Witcher warmed up its viewers to the idea of watching their relationships blossom. With Liam Hemsworth set to replace Henry Cavill in season 4, the father-daughter dynamic remains uncertain. But nothing rivals the uncertainty surrounding Ciri’s powers that seem to have met their nadir following the monster fight and the Wild Hunt chase.

The focus on Ciri’s upcoming storyline will be more along the lines of events that conspired between her and her ability to wield the Fire magic. With Ciri giving up her powers in season 3, the question of whether or not it is permanent or temporary still remains.

One of the deviations from Andrzej Sapkowski’s novel was how the makers of the Netflix show played out Ciri treading into the desert. It showed Ciri’s visions of how she possessed the power to bend the Continent’s future according to her will. The possibility of possessing such a dangerous power made the Princess of Cintra renounce it. She gave up the very powers that she had toiled so hard for all through the three seasons.

The season deviated from the novel in its intent. While the novel showcased a Ciri embracing her powers and independence, the show’s makers reiterated her status of subordination.

While this could be an attempt to tone down the complicated politics in Sapkowski’s novels, it is yet to see how Season 4 will bring back her powers.

When the unicorn and the Cintra travel through the desert, the journey is nothing short of grueling. And as she treads through the horrors of the desert, Ciri ends up eating the insect monster. Sadly, the monster inflicts a poisonous wound on the unicorn. Desperate to save the one that has been by her side, she uses her forbidden powers venturing into the evil path that her character is suspected to take.

The deviance from the books is mainly along the lines of how the denouncing of powers takes place. While she abandons it all together in the show, the book focuses on how she still remembers the spells if she were to wield her powers again. It will be interesting to see how Lauren Schmidt Hissrich has planned Ciri’s future without her powers.
