After ‘Arcane’, Netflix Set to Bring ‘Dark Souls’ Anime to Its Library and Fans Are Divided About It
Netflix is really testing anime and gaming fans while trying to impress them. The OTT platform is adding variety to its genre, tapping into the fantasy market by bringing live-action shows and anime. In recent years, Arcane was picked up for production. They have now moved to yet another franchise that also had a game in its name. The Arcane anime has received pretty good reviews, but skepticism is already high about adaptations like One Piece even before release.
Amidst the strike and halting of its other projects, Netflix is rumored to be making anime based on the ‘Dark Souls’ game. It was created by Hidetaka Miyazaki and is a role-playing game series, with monsters and morbid themes, known for its difficulty levels. The game first launched in 2011 with the titular name and came up with several parts in the following years.

It is often considered to be one of the best games of all time, adding to Netflix’s pressure of making a perfect anime. When recreating from a source material, one of the biggest challenges is to impress the existing fan base and to not stray away from the original source while being creative.
It will be interesting to see the setup of the Medieval-themed game set in the fantasy world of Lordran. But fans of the game already have mixed reactions to it.

Netflix has really dipped its hands deep into the anime genre. While some fans welcome it, others do not appreciate their favorite games and manga being touched. One fan compared it to the 2017 Castlevania anime picked from the gaming series. It received amazing reviews, so this one is expected to be either very good or very bad.
One fan is sure of the platform failing at the anime. But another one replied, stating how the criticism was not valid because anime like Edgerunner and Arcane have proved to be successful. But many others are skeptical and unhappy over the OTT potentially ruining it.
Then there are those demanding a live-action show instead, to see the glory, twisted darkness of the game come alive.

Despite the skepticism, some fans are willing to give Netflix a chance. With the strike halting actors’ and writers’ work for their cause, the adaption phase will test fans’ acceptance of the Dark Souls anime.
