In the history of media that has stood miles apart from others, Netflix has done a remarkable job in not only nurturing them but also adding a plethora more to its catalog. Oftentimes it has also proved through shows such as Squid Game and Money Heist that language barriers are mere pebbles to sift through. In its latest attempt to honor those who dedicate themselves to cinema, the streaming giant has revealed a first look at Yellow Door: ’90s Lo-fi Film Club.

The movie, dedicated to the Academy Award-winning South Korean director Bong Joon-ho of 2019’s Parasite fame, has many stories to tell.

Upon its release, Parasite debuted with a staggering 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The thriller won the Best Picture Oscar, the first non-English movie to do so. At its helm was director Bong Joon-ho whose life and works are now the theme of Netflix’s latest documentary. The streamer recently released a first look at one of the first-ever creative works of the director. A one-minute clip featured a voice-over of the process.

The stop-motion flick was Joon-ho’s first-ever work of art, made while he was still at the university. The 22-minute movie was once only screened for the Yellow Door cinephile group on Christmas 1992. Shot on the Hitachi 8200, the filmmaker provides intricate details on the behind-the-scenes process. Featuring English subtitles, the short movie, Lost in Paradise, marked the stepping stones that eventually led him to Parasite. The 84-minute documentary, directed by Lee Hyuk-rae, remains a Netflix exclusive.

A string of failures following multiple disastrous outcomes to its live-action attempts led Netflix to a path of revitalization. The streamer would go on to taste beyond-the-clouds success as its One Piece would go on to dethrone long-standing shows such as Stranger Things and Wednesday. The reason behind the grand success was allowing the original content creator, Eiichiro Oda, to take over the executive and creative reins.

Once again, following a similar approach is Netflix with Zack Snyder. The Man of Steel director stands all set to launch his Star Wars rival, Rebel Moon. The two-part series would take a no-holds-barred approach to intergalactic wars while also merging Snyder’s previous works into one Netflix universe. The latest trailer for the space opera warranted massive fan love and hence, guaranteed the streamer one more success.
