No one can perhaps ignore a rabid fanbase who wants to hustle and holler a gig into existence. The campaign that erupted in the aftermath of 2017’s Justice League ‘calamity.’ can precisely substantiate this. Aggressive fans fireballed the momentum to #RelsaseTheSnyderCut, which apparently did not exist as the director left midway because of his daughter’s tragic death. But DCEU had to eventually greenlight Snyder’s vision, which now exists on HBO. Another director who seems to monetize by this volatile movement is Suicide Squad director David Ayer.
2016’s Suicide Squad was a success with stars like Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto getting fame for their respective characters. Robbie even got her own DC movie that focused on Harley Quinn after her breakup with Joker. However, the Suicide Squad’s director has a different opinion. Looking at the failure of the dark-toned faceoff of Superman and Batman, Warner Bros. apparently edited a few scenes of Ayer’s vision giving what was supposed to be sublime, a very light tone. And some six years later, Ayer has now disowned this theatrical success, even slamming DC studios with what he calls a “studio hack job.”
My cut isn’t perfect. But it’s vastly better that the studio hack job. People have seen it. The typical reaction is shock how much better it is. This is across a sample of ages and fans and non fans. You’re speaking from negativity not openness. Why? 🤷🏻♂️ https://t.co/9FXJXg8GwX

The tweet came in on 31st March as a reply to a tweet from a now-deleted account about the original release. Ayer replied by explicitly mentioning that his cut is “vastly better” and “the typical reaction is shock how much better it is.”
And although the End of Watch director acknowledged that his cut “isn’t perfect,” it did not stop him from spearheading the #RealseTheAyerCut movement. The reaction to his tweet will perhaps make the view clearer for you.
How are fans reacting to David Ayer and his vision of Suicide Squad?
The director has seemingly invested much of the time after James Gunn’s ascension to DC Films, to make his vision gain ground. From courting support from fans to streaming it for some of the leading fans, he has done it all. And fans are all in to have a bite of this version of the Will Smith starrer. Fans have since shown support saying things like “it would work well on HBO Max,” and “Warner Bros. would like a few hours of content.”
I really hope your cut gets released. I can’t even imagine how frustrating it would be to have the world judging Suicide Squad without you being able to show the film as intended.

You should take it on tour David. A camper van and a projector in remote locations. Leave clues on Twitter to where it's being shown. It would become a thing of legend.
If you could steal a copy of Batgirl while you're at it, the people of Glasgow would be much obliged 😁🙏🦇

Hoping to eventually see it… I think it would work well as an HBO Max original.

While some suggest it will shock all the haters, others filled the comments with the trending hashtag.

Thanks for keeping this topic alive. Sorry you have to deal with those that may not want to see your film but have to be a-holes about it anyway. I’d love to see your version, perfect or not, some day. #ReleaseTheAyerCut

Notably, James Gunn, the director of the soft reboot of Suicide Squad has seemingly supported the idea, stating that “As the new (& first ever) CEOs of DC Studios, Peter [Safran] & I think it’s important we acknowledge you, the fans, & let you know we hear your different desires for the pathways forward for DC.” Ayer also confirmed a few conversations with Gunn and has shown optimism for the new DC Universe. However, only the future can tell if Ayer Cut truly gets a release.
