Netflix has had its hands dipped inside the honey pot of action for quite a long time. The streaming giant, which notably has the action-legend, Arnold Schwarzenegger himself, as its Chief Action Officer, though has had troubles with them going off the ground smoothly. From its latest Heart of Stone starring Gal Gadot to Schwarzenegger’s own, FUBAR, Netflix’s action catalog is a hit and miss. Regardless, every gem has its own benefactor. One such flick was a 2019 action-heist thriller starring Ben Affleck as the lead.

Although the original was subject to mixed reception, it certainly did boast a stellar cast and high-octane action. Now, a sequel to it is reportedly in the works.

In 2019, Netflix roped in Ben Affleck, Pedro Pascal, and Oscar Isaac as the top-billed cast and poured in $115 million to make Triple Frontier. Now, after four years of its release, a sequel is in the works. As reported by Giant Freakin Robot, pre-production of the same was already in its early stages before the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes set in.

The action thriller focused on a group of ex-servicemen of the US Army’s Delta force. It brought in its spice with a heist of a South American crime lord, with J.C. Chandor as its director. While it is unknown as to who among the original cast is to return, Ben Affleck stands to miss since his character was portrayed dead in the original.

Netflix may also want to do a makeover of the story as well. Although Triple Frontier raked in over 52 million unique streams, it was effectively a loss. The streaming giant incurred a critical mess when complaints poured in of the story being all over the place and lacking cohesiveness. Regardless, it struck well enough among the audience and sits with a 70 percent Rotten Tomatoes score.

If only there was a magic well somewhere whose waters could be sprinkled over productions to make them a grand success. However, in reality, Netflix itself showcased with One Piece that success comes with dedication and a well-balanced story. The most recent Netflix action flick, Gadot’s Heart of Stone, was another critical mess when it came across as “soulless”. The much-touted flick, even starring Bollywood diva, Alia Bhatt, and Jamie Dornan, failed to take off big.

A lot of it had to do with the lack of a proper direction in the story. A plea that also finds mention in the original Triple Frontier. Yet, Eiichiro Oda has now shown how to maintain a good storyline even after making changes when required. Thus, after the Oda-led show’s hit, Netflix may now be more wary of ensuring that Triple Frontier 2 crosses the critical frontiers.
