‘A Model Family’: Korea Serves Another ‘Ozark’-Inspired Nail-Biting Thriller

After a long, impressive run, Netflix Original Ozark came to an end early this year. And it has left a void ever since then. However, a recent Korean thriller may just be the right thing that you need to feel that big Ozark hole. A Model Family on Netflix draws several similarities from Ozark. It’s an understated crime drama about a normal family that gets involved with the seedy underbelly of South Korea. If we have managed to catch your attention, keep reading to know more.
A Model Family on Netflix plot
Park Dong Ha, a professor, is going through a severe financial crunch. His teenage daughter is still in school and his son needs major surgery to stay alive. He had used the money that his family had saved for the surgery to secure a permanent position at the University. However, things hadn’t quite worked out according to plan, and he lost all the money. Add to his misery is his strained relationship with his wife, Kang Eun Ja, who’s had enough of living like this and wants a divorce. Once while driving home from work, a van crashes into his car.

But upon further investigation, he finds two dead bodies and a bag full of cash. In a desperate move, he takes the money and buries the body in his backyard. Turns out his wife was having an affair with one of the dead men. But he doesn’t know that he has unwittingly gotten involved with a drug cartel and an undercover police operation that is trying to bust the cartel.
