Designers Sidonie Roberts and Amy Roberts recounted how they got into trouble with royal advisor Major David Rankin in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. According to the pair, there were several nice scenes showcasing young Prince Harry and Prince William alongside the Queen. So, to make a different fashion statement, they dressed the young royals in jeans and a sweater. However, this wardrobe decision horrified the royal advisor, who said that “they would never do that.”
The designers went on to say that the adviser had been a little late in noticing the error. If not for the advisor, they may have even gone a bit overboard, but fortunately, they did not. Moreover, as they were not making a documentary, they had more leeway to tell their own story. However, this episode undoubtedly influenced the designers to be more cautious in their clothing selection.
The Crown was scrutinized by both the royals and the public. However, they were not the only ones who had to keep their stylish attire under control.

When the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, was still a senior member of the royal family, her ensembles were mainly centered around muted tones and somber colors. As she confessed in her documentary, Meghan & Harry, she did not want to stand out. She claimed that in the UK, she rarely wore any color since she felt she could not wear “the same color as Her Majesty.” So, she started wearing light colors to avoid accidentally wearing the same color as any of the other senior members.
During her tenure in the United Kingdom, the former actress wore a lot of traditional colors, including brown, navy, white, and black. However, her wardrobe has become more colorful since she stepped down as a senior royal in 2020. This was reinforced when she stepped out with her husband, Prince Harry, in September for the Invictus Games, looking stunning in a teal-colored off-shoulder gown.
