Shawn Levy sat down with Variety to talk about his new projects, All The Light We Cannot See and Deadpool 3 on Monday. In the interview, he shed light on the worries of the cast aging ahead of season 5. He said spectators have already watched the cast members growing up in the public eye. “So we’re going to use all the all the tools available to us,” he affirmed to help make the cast look younger.
Most of the leading stars were around 12 when they entered the show and like every human, they have changed too. The Canadian director admitted this thing has certainly not been helpful, but they can still hide it. According to him, their incredible makeup, hair, and costume department would do the magic required to make them look younger. Besides this, the 80s in the storyline will also assist them because of the way teenagers lived in that era.
As of now, the cast members are gearing up for their return to the sets, which will happen when the actors’ strike ends. This statement by the creator marks the second time a show member has defended the aging issue in public. Before him, the writers’ team, who constantly remained connected with fans, tried to convince people with an 80s video.
Stranger Things writers shut down criticism about the cast’s age
In July this year, the Stranger Things writer’s account on X, formerly Twitter, dropped a video. Through the video, the team pushed back at people who thought their cast members looked older than the characters. The video featured real-life high schoolers from 1989 who looked a lot older than what high schoolers are supposed to be.

Through this, the team proved their point that age would not matter because it actually happened in that era. In fact, the show has flawlessly depicted the retro style kids used to have in the 1980s. The hairstyles of all the boys and girls in the video were exactly what the series showed. Whether it is Steve’s bad boy mullet or Kali’s radical look, everything perfectly matches the era.
