3 Years After the Infamous Oscar Slap, Netflix Brings the Iconic Will Smith to Its Library
In recent years, fans have watched as controversial behaviors and opinions have marred the careers of their favorite stars. Just a few years ago, Will Smith joined the likes of Kanye West, Charlie Sheen, and even Chris Bown when he rocked Chris Rock at the Oscars. While that may have lost the 55-year-old's favor with most of Hollywood, it looks like the streaming giant plans to bury the hatchet by adding one of the actor's iconic films to its library.
Although Netflix has been focusing on bringing live adaptations like One Piece to life and more, it looks like the media company plans to expand its library in more ways than one.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Netflix gave fans a peek into its library additions for April 2024. While it featured Zack Snyder's upcoming Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver and the classic rom-com, You've Got Mail, it was the Will Smith addition that had users online a little surprised. The post revealed that the streamer would be bringing the 55-year-old's Oscar-winning film, King Richard, to the platform. The addition came three years after the biographical sports film was released.
The Smith film would be available on the streaming platform from April 24th, according to the post. While the role of Serena and Venus Williams' father landed the father of three an Academy Award for Best Actor, the movie was shunned by fans after the I Am Legend star lost his cool at the 2022 awards ceremony. Although he may have stayed on the down low for the last couple of years since the infamous incident, he ended up making a comeback to the spotlight last year.
Apart from focusing on his eternal love for hip-hop at the Grammy Salute to 50 Years of the Hip-Hop with Jazzy Jeff, Smith seemed to be working on expanding his portfolio as well.

Will Smith may have let his career take a backseat for the last couple of years because of the Oscar slap. However, that did not stop the actor from biding his time and plotting his return. Although he constantly kept his fans and social media followers entertained with posts, the star still found the time to line up his upcoming projects. While he planned on taking on some new roles, the 55-year-old seems to be going back to the roots of his fame.
From a Bad Boys 4 project to an I Am Legend 2 project and even a sequel to Aladdin, Smith has quite a busy schedule to adhere to if he plans on completing all his endeavors without a hitch. Apart from the classic films, he also has a few new films like The Council and even Netflix's Fast and Loose.
