After five months of picketing with banners and posters outside the leading studios, the Hollywood writers finally stepped back into their writer rooms on September 27. It was a bright day for all the entertainment junkies who had been longing for the cinematic hiatus to pull its strings. Members of the Writers Guild of America voted to ratify their deal upon getting what they were aiming for months. This conclusion of the WGA strike added a spark of positivity for a quick resolution with the SAG-AFTRA members as well.

However, after the suspension of negotiations, it seems like the finish line of the strikes is moving farther away. Recently, the protestors pulled off a bizarre outrage in front of Netflix and Disney studios, expressing their disappointment.

For about two weeks, the SAG-AFTRA union and the leading studios negotiated a deal to put an end to the uprisings. However, the representatives of the media studios recently confirmed that “the gap between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA is too great”. After the studios turned their back on the demands of the guild, the members took to protesting outside Netflix’s studio. They sang ‘The Point of No Return’ from The Phantom of the Opera. Additionally, a bunch of the members also rallied outside the Disney studio.

‘The Point of No Return’ comes at a point where the characters realize they can no longer go back and must confront the consequences of their actions. The song conveys a sentiment that is much like the protestors’ who are in for the long haul until they get what they want. Even some WGA members, including Tommy Pico, went back to the streets to support the SAG-AFTRA members.

As per a recent report in Variety, the OTT giant would be outsourcing the workforce required for its anime content. Apart from shedding off its employees, Netflix also put a temporary halt to two of its anticipated anime adaptations. Escape From Beverly Hills and Tunga, the animes that were announced way before the massive success of One Piece will face a shutdown as per the latest update.
