‘Nineteen Steps’ Movie: Fans Seems Rather Displeased With Millie Bobby Brown and Netflix’s Continued Partnership
Millie Bobby Brown is a homegrown Netflix star who began with Stranger Things, but her connection with the streaming platform has only strengthened in the years that followed. While stars often move on once they take flight, Brown has surprisingly maintained a strong connection with Netflix from her breakout character of Eleven to the Damsel, who was not quite distressed. Now, with news of her debut novel Nineteen Steps being adapted into a film for Netflix, Brown remains all the more closely linked to the streamer, but it might be the fans who are outgrowing the connection.
According to a recent Deadline report, Millie Bobby Brown is working on a film adaptation of her debut novel, Nineteen Steps, for Netflix. While the streaming platform has not commented, it is reported that Brown will produce the film through her PCMA banner and is expected to star in it. Anthony McCarten, a four-time Oscar nominee, is set to write the screenplay. As the updates reached platforms on the Internet, a Reddit thread flooded with unmistakable frustration.

Nineteen Steps, a WWII novel co-written by Millie Bobby Brown and Kathleen McGurl, was published by William Morrow in September 2023 and became a bestseller on both the New York Times and Sunday Times lists. The book, inspired by Brown’s grandmother’s experiences, centers on Neillie Morris, an 18-year-old girl living in the East London neighborhood of Bethnal Green. While Brown is currently in Atlanta for Netflix-related work on Stranger Things, the buzz around Nineteen Steps is not matched by similar enthusiasm.
Consequently, with fans openly expressing their disapproval, there are more concerns than anticipation surrounding the upcoming adaptation.

For any star, their origins are profoundly significant, and for Millie Bobby Brown, Netflix was the foundation that helped her career flourish. However, with reports of another collaboration for the adaptation of Nineteen Steps, fans are expressing fatigue rather than enthusiasm. One Reddit user commented, “I’m sure her book is good and all, but there’s people who have dedicated their lives to writing”. Another echoed similarly, “I'm honestly sick of celebrities branching out”.
For fans, giving these opportunities to celebrities can feel like it is overshadowing those who have dedicated their lives to these fields. One fan voiced this sentiment, saying, “I would like to see fresh new people and not the same people recycled”. Although some expressed interest in the project, one user remarked, “I'm not sure she's the person who should bring it to the screen.” Nonetheless, many fans agreed that while this partnership might be a “safe investment” for both Brown and Netflix, it seems to be the most pragmatic approach for her career.
