Netflix to Ditch New Productions for ‘Stranger Things’ and ‘Wednesday’, Following Major Studios’ Approach Post-WGA Strike
After breaking Hollywood’s history of the longest strike, the Writers Guild of America finally decided to rest. 148 days later, the writers unanimously voted to lift the strike, allowing writers to return to work. However, lifting the strike does not mean everything will be normal in a blink of an eye. Therefore, the production houses started planning and prioritizing the shows and films. Amidst the chaotic situation, Netflix also decided to focus on prioritizing the shows.
Shows like The Witcher, Stranger Things, Cobra Kai, and Wednesday, among others, have been on pause for a long time now. At the post-strike stage, the streaming giant has urgently set its eyes on specific shows for a major reason.

There is nothing more frustrating for a fan than an unfinished tale of their favorite shows. Owing to that, the American streaming service will now prioritize Stranger Things and Wednesday in the post-strike period. As Variety reported, the OTT platform has set its mind to write the scripts for Wednesday season 2 as soon as they can. Moreover, the filming of the fan-favorite sci-fi show was also stopped because of the strikes.
Therefore, finishing the fifth and final season is Netflix’s top priority. The main reason to start the filming as rapidly as they can is the show is based on the lives of teenagers. Amidst all the delay, the production house also had to keep in mind the age of the actors. It has to be done before the actors can no longer pass for a group of high school teenagers.
The previous season of the Duffer Brothers’ show has given major cliffhangers. However, the writers of the show kept fans entertained amidst the strikes as well. They teased the return of characters, hinted at how the plot would unfold, and much more. After Shawn Levy joined the team to direct the last season, the ending of the strike spread a wave of relief among fans. Although this is a piece of good news for Netflix users, the question of how soon is still yet to be answered.

The writers’ strike just ended with tentative satisfactory results for both parties. However, the actors are still on the streets, waiting for their share of the fair deals. Therefore, it might take a while for them to get back on the sets. That is the reason Netflix put the Wednesday season 2 script writing on a priority list. The show creators began working on parts that didn’t need the actors while the actors were still fighting for themselves.
After 148 days’ hiatus, while the writers shook the internet, actors are also hoping to get justice for themselves as well. Additionally, shows like The Last of Us, Grey’s Anatomy, Euphoria, and many more from other streaming services are also going back on track. All the production houses are also making plans to finish the unfinished movies as well.
