Netflix Overpowers HBO, Apple TV+, Disney, and More But Falls Short for Top Spot at Emmy to This One Network
Every award season, when stars square off to outshine one another, the competition is not just about their legacies, but also where they stand in the moment. As the Emmy Awards geared up to dazzle with a star-studded evening, the heat was just as sizzling between the celebrities as it was between the streaming giants they represented. Netflix, the reigning powerhouse, flexed its muscles and outplayed most rivals, but just missed snatching the top spot thanks to a sneaky game-changer.
Despite Netflix's jaw-dropping performance last quarter, which set the stage for their Emmy domination, they did not quite see this curveball coming.

Netflix has been on a wild cost-cutting bender lately, slashing shows mid-season and even booting some off their platform entirely. But despite these bold moves, Netflix's last quarter has been nothing short of explosive, with subscribers flocking in droves. It looked like Netflix was all set for an Emmy-winning spree, but then FX hit the jackpot with a whopping 36 total wins, snatching the crown away from Netflix’s 24.
Netflix bulldozed past HBO/Max, Apple TV+, ABC, Disney+, Hulu, NBC, CBS, Amazon, Peacock, Comedy Central, Nat Geo, and Adult Swim. HBO/MAX snagged 14 Emmys, while Apple TV+ landed 10. ABC, Disney+, Hulu, and NBC hit the single-digit mark with 7 Emmys each. CBS scored 5, Amazon got 4, Peacock nabbed 3, and Comedy Central and Nat Geo each picked up 2. Meanwhile, Adult Swim claimed a single Emmy, making them the underdog.
While Netflix may have reigned supreme for the most part, with Disney’s FX’s domination, the Emmy crown, without a doubt, sits at the Disney headquarters.

Disney’s FX came out swinging at the 2024 Primetime Emmys, snagging a whopping 9 awards during Sunday’s ABC broadcast and adding 27 Creative Arts Emmys the weekend before, for a grand total of 36. The Walt Disney Company shattered records with 60 awards overall, while Hulu bagged 50 and Disney+ scored 9. FX’s Shogun and The Bear stole the show, with 18 and 11 wins respectively, marking a new era of dominance for FX after years of HBO and Netflix ruling the roost.
Netflix, not to be outdone, followed with 24 wins—6 from Sunday’s broadcast and 18 Creative Arts Emmys. Baby Reindeer racked up four awards, including the Outstanding Limited Series. Ironically, it was not Selena Gomez and the Only Murders in the Building gang that needed to worry. Netflix should have been the one prepping for a face-plant instead.
