We Live in Time, John Crowley’s moving saga featuring Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh, centers on a Weetabix representative Tobias, and a former skater-turned-Bavarian-fusion chef Almut. The narrative follows the pair as they navigate their relationship over a decade with a non-linear format of storytelling. They cross paths when Almut accidentally hits Tobias with her car, leading to a series of spoiler-alert events that bring them together.

True to the tropes of a rom-com, We Live in Time tugs at the heartstrings when things take a downturn with Almut’s deteriorating health condition on the verge of their starting a family. The film has received positive reviews from critics, with some declaring it the most touching story of the year. With Oscar debates already on the line and fans fidgeting through streaming options, it is difficult to believe otherwise.
