Countless pages have been filled in the name of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, but the question is how many truly translate their lives without bias? Since the Sussexes swapped their royal ways for the American dream, the garlands of praise have been replaced by hawk-eyes. Yet, refusing to let go of their ground, Markle and the Prince have put their best foot forward to become the wordsmiths of their own novel, whether critics like it or not. While the expert panel may not have hit the brakes, their superhit Netflix series sparked a change of heart for retired rugby star Matt Dawson.

Dawson once revealed Markle’s role in doing away with his doubts, thanks to his and the Prince’s Netflix journey.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have an equal share of naysayers and supporters, but their Netflix series, Harry & Meghan, turned one skeptic into a fan who is none other than the sports star, Matt Dawson. In a 2022 conversation with Express.co.uk, Dawson revealed he did not find the first three episodes remarkable, but a one-liner by the Duchess flipped the script for him. He recalled declaring to himself that it was nothing more than a “woe is me type doc.”

Despite his skepticism, he stuck around for something worthwhile when Markle candidly reflected in her interview how in the past 6 years, several pages were written about her and the Prince by writers they knew nothing about. “Doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?,” the Duchess questioned, completely altering Dawson’s thought process. Not only that, it got Dawson thinking and introspecting.

In his conversation with Express.co.uk, Matt Dawson revealed the line that hit him the most from Harry & Meghan back in the day. So much so that it got him thinking that, like many others, his perspective of Prince Harry treads on the line where “he is a bit of an adopted son to everybody after what happened in the past.” Dawson acknowledged the intrigue around the Prince and Meghan Markle is undeniable.

If he has to know something about them, the rugby star thought it is better to hear a first-hand account instead of third-party information. Dawson added he “loved” the intimate details of their early romance and even admitted that no one else could have been the wordsmith behind that other than them. Hence, at least for him, the series “served its purpose” and satiated the curiosity around the Sussexes from where it counts.
