Netflix’s The Witcher has always had a bittersweet reception. The show has courted numerous controversies and driven discourse due to its deviations from the original lore. However, despite all the woes that the fandom has had with the Netflix adaptation, they all collectively agree that Henry Cavill as the Geralt of Rivia was the best part of the show. Therefore, when the series' third season, and final season for Cavill, struggled to give the iconic monster hunter a proper send-off, it once again faced backlash and fan outcry.

The Witcher Season 3’s last few episodes are the lowest-rated ever in the entirety of the show. But despite the underwhelming reception, the last episode starring Henry Cavill received an Emmy nod for one of its highlights.

The Witcher may have lagged behind a bit in terms of storyline and source accuracy, but the show has always been visually top-notch. Whether it is special effects, costumes, action choreography, or jaw-dropping prosthetic makeup, the Lauren Hissrich-led show has consistently earned high marks in these areas, along with prestigious award nominations. Recently, the show, specifically Season 3's last episode, The Cost of Chaos, which was Henry Cavill's last episode, earned an Emmy nod for Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup.

Artists Mark Coulier, Deb Watson, Stephen Murphy, and Josh Weston have all been nominated for their contribution to the show's amazing prosthetics work. However, considering the disaster that season three was, it would be a stretch to anticipate a flood of award nominations this time around. With season three being wrapped, now the burden falls on Liam Hemsworth.

The Witcher released the first look of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt from season 4 in May of this year. Netflix shared a clip showcasing a brief tease of The Hunger Games star in his monster-hunter avatar. However, loyal fans of Henry Cavill as Geralt were extremely disappointed with Hemsworth's interpretation of the character. They flooded social media, expressing their sadness over this change.

This leaves little room for the fourth season to pull a turnaround, as it seems there is little that fans are looking forward to with Netflix's The Witcher. The only way the Lauren Hissrich show can win back its audience is if it ties up loose ends, cuts out unnecessary subplots, and sticks to the original sources. Nonetheless, the hope is that The Witcher will keep its visual appeal undamaged regardless.
