When The Witcher first appeared on Netflix in 2019, fantasy enthusiasts could not get enough of the Henry Cavill and Freya Allan-led drama series. In its first three seasons, the series had garnered a massive fan-following that was always keen to watch the Continent’s many events unfold. Especially due to the stellar portrayal of the White Wolf by Henry Cavill. So, when the show decided to remove the British actor after the third season, fans were obviously livid. 

A petition to remove the show’s writers that was initiated by angered audiences last year has now resurfaced and is capturing fans’ attention. 

Petition to bring back Henry Cavill picks up traction once again

In October of 2022, a The Witcher fan, began a movement on an online forum. Recently, it re-emerged into the spotlight as fans are now dreading to see a new face for Geralt more than ever. Currently, it has the backing of over three-hundred thousand people and is growing. The demands are quite straightforward. 

Firstly, the signees want to see the return of Henry Cavill in season four instead of Liam Hemsworth. They highlight how Witcherverse creator Andrzej Sapkowski has always deemed Cavill to be the perfect fit for the role. Well, even former producer Marc Jobst has said plenty in that regard. Secondly, they hope that Netflix sees the grave errors that the writers have made, and removes them.

When it comes to the writers of The Witcher, a lot can be said about the creative decision they have recently made. 

Why are the writers turning out to be the real villains of The Witcher?

One thing that has come to light in the past and was also heavily spoken of in the petition is the deviation of The Witcher from its source material. Often, the writers have strayed off the path set by Sapkowski in the novels. Apparently, the Man of Steel actor used to protest against these deviations often and was kicked off the show for doing so. And that is not all!

The writers were also reportedly caught mocking the precious works of the Polish writer held dear by many. What redeemed the changed storyline was the cast’s perfect portrayal of it, especially Cavill’s. So, it was a given that his removal was going to bring the fans to the boiling point it now has. Whether the petition will wake up Netflix to the wishes of its viewers, only time will tell.
