Despite Cult Success, Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell’s Romance Fails to Make It into Netflix’s Top Sony Films

A well-written and performed romantic comedy is the way to any cinema lover’s heart. But it is also hard to make such a movie that shows the perfect balance of romance, drama, and a great storyline. But it was all well achieved in 2023’s hottest winter arrival, Anyone But You. From sizzling chemistry among its main leads,  Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, to fabulous destinations, and a strong supporting cast dancing to the tune of ‘Unwritten’ in the end credits, all was well done.

The movie satisfied the long wait of cinema lovers who were waiting for a good rom-com for eons. But despite becoming a cult success, the movie has not managed to achieve an important milestone on Netflix's list.

Anyone But You lags behind on Netflix's list of top Sony films

Netflix has a Pay 1 output deal with Sony in which Netflix has to stream all the theatrical releases of Sony Pictures. And What’s on Netflix has recently released a list of how the Sony movies have performed on Netflix, in which Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell's Anyone But You falls way back on number eleven with only 13 million views. It was surpassed by Madame Web with 16 million views, Bullet Train with 19.6 million, and Uncharted with 21.5 million streams. As part of Sony’s deal with Netflix, Anyone But You debuted on the streaming giant on April 23, 2024, after an impressive collection at the ticket counters.

This Will Gluck’s 2023 romantic comedy, which was loosely based on William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, was very well received at the box office. Made on a $25 million budget, it managed to earn an amazing $220.3 million. Noticing the movie’s massive fan base, Sony Pictures even released an extended version of the film on February 9, 2024, especially for Valentine’s Day, which further added to its romantic charm.

The burning chemistry between Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell against the backdrop of Australia was oozing through the screen in the movie. However, Sweeney was engaged to fiancé Jonathan Davino at the time. However, the rumor mill has of their dating picked up momentum some time ago after Sweeney split ways with Davino and was spotted with Powell in America during his sister’s wedding a few days ago.

They were spotted at the Dallas restaurant Joe Leo Fine Tex Mex, where they were rehearsing for Glen Powell’s sister’s wedding. The rumored couple was also seen at the members-only club Park House, where the two were reportedly looking “real close.” Though there has been no confirmation from either of the actors, fans and media fully believe that their onscreen romance has transitioned into a real one. While the news of Anyone But You's loss on the Sony list might be a disappointment, they sure can find comfort in their reported blossoming romance.
