The more popular a show gets, the greater the risk of it leaving its viewers unsatisfied. Take Game of Thrones, for instance- the show that shot to cult classic status in no time ended up being buried under a landslide of backlash by the end. The problem is that makers often struggle to keep the magic and spark alive, which made the show shine in the first place. Now, with Netflix’s magnum opus, Stranger Things, heading toward its final chapter, the whole glory of the series hangs in the balance of its season finale.
Dacre Montgomery, an ex-Stranger Things star, has shed light on how the Netflix original can dodge a Game of Thrones-style downfall.

The one thing that fans hated the most about Game of Thrones is that it left several of its threads open and hanging after the finale. The final season, in particular, is widely seen as the worst, as it did not give fans the closure they were hoping for. Dacre Montgomery, during his interview with TIFF Originals, talked about the importance of "closure" in a show. “I think it's important to have a good ending,” said the Went Up the Hill actor, after pointing to what had happened in the past with Game of Thrones.

Montgomery, though, had full faith in the Duffer Brothers’ brilliance. “The Duffer Brothers always come up with something good,” assured the 29-year-old. From assuming which characters are most vulnerable in the final season to anticipating the new additions- there has been a lot of guessing regarding how the Shawn Levy-produced show would wrap itself up. However, one recent fan theory has sparked the most mind-blowing potential climax for the series.
If this theory has any connection to the original storyline, Stranger Things fans better brace themselves for one epic finale.

A popular Reddit thread, earlier this month, shared a theory that Max, played by Sadie Sink, might wake up as One in Season 5, since she was dead for a solid minute in Season 4. The theory suggests that One might have taken over Max’s soul, given that Eleven, played by Millie Bobby Brown, could not find her, and is now using her body to go against the group, reminiscent of what audiences saw with Will in earlier seasons of the show.

Back then, One was pulling the strings through Will after Noah Schnapp’s character got trapped in the Upside Down for days and almost did not make it. If the Max theory turns out to be true, it could be the biggest shocker yet in her dynamics with Eleven. Nonetheless, whether we get a showdown between the two girls, the hope is that the Duffer Brothers will blow fans away with the finale, just like they always have.
