The sixth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards brought the streaming rivals to the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles on June 15. Despite securing 17 nominations across various categories, Netflix won only 2 awards: Beckham for Best Limited Series and Selling Sunset for Best Lifestyle Show: Home/Garden. Netflix's nominations spanned numerous categories, including Best Competition Series with Squid Game: The Challenge, Best Unstructured Series with Love on the Spectrum, Best Structured Series, and Best Lifestyle Show: Fashion/ Beauty with Queer Eye.
Others include Best Culinary Show with The Great British Baking Show, Best Travel/Adventure Show with Somebody Feed Phil, Best Animal/Nature Show with Life on Our Planet, Best Crime/Justice Show with Unlocked: A Jail Experiment, Best Sports Show with Quarterback and Untold, and Best Relationship Show with Love is Blind and Love on the Spectrum.
Despite Beckham, which chronicles David Beckham’s journey from humble working-class beginnings to global football stardom’s surprising win, FX claimed the top spot in the sports series category.

Ryan Reynolds mentioned Marvel Jesus but did not refer to a sports Jesus. Nonetheless, his series Welcome to Wrexham did the untold at the sixth annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards by winning Best Sports Show, surpassing Netflix’s Quarterback and ESPN’s 30 for 30, and securing the crown for FX. Although fans have been eagerly anticipating a third season, which was green-lit in November 2023, this recent win is sure to heighten their excitement.
Other nominees included Apple TV+’s The Dynasty: New England Patriots, HBO/Max’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel, and Netflix’s Untold. The victory is particularly sweet for the Wrexham team, as Welcome to Wrexham also won the Producers Guild of America Award for Outstanding Producer of Non-Fiction Television. However, with someone’s prosperity comes someone’s doom, and probably why, despite a strong start, this award season did not prove to be a standout one for Netflix.
