Netflix, which is now unable to produce new movies and shows due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strikes, is busy expanding its roster. Now that original productions are at a halt, the platform needs to figure out a way to keep its tradition of bringing new content every month alive. So it has added several new titles recently. Moreover, to add to its repertoire, Netflix recently added many dramas, including an award-winning Denzel Washington movie, adventures, and the heavily acclaimed live-action adaptation of One Piece.

Now, Netflix is looking to spruce things up with some classic outlaw action that stars none other than the raw power of Russell Crowe. The movie, packed with action, adventure, and a star-studded cast, has now made its way onto Netflix.

Action and adventure have highlighted some of the major outings by Russell Crowe. Additionally, the Man of Steel and Gladiator actor possesses a vast acting range. The grit, determination, and patiently paced fluid action persona created by the actor resonated well with the audience. Riding on it, in 2010, Ridley Scott helmed a project titled Robin Hood, starring Crowe as Robin Longstride. Hinging on the classical themes of the Robin Hood legends, it featured a plot involving Crowe overthrowing a king.

The film was elaborately grand in its cast and action. Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, and Mark Strong also starred in the somewhat origin story. The movie saw Crowe’s character become an outlaw and take a twist to the known Robin Hood tales. With a budget of $150 million, the costs spiraled to over $200 million by the time of its release. It also had to compete with heavyweights such as Marvel’s Iron Man 2, which was released along the same window.

Russell Crowe led Robin Hood, released to a sea of negative critical reception and mixed audience reviews. While a few liked the depiction of Robin Hood’s character in an action-packed story, critics and a vast majority of the audience blasted it for its narrative mess. The story lacked the punch necessary to justify the grand action at stake. As such, the movie settled by grossing close to $320 million.

Additionally, the movie failed to connect with the audience on several levels. In many reviews, the movie was labeled to be dull and unwatchable. Incidentally, the movie detracted from the original source material and was subjected to many script changes which made the story spill all over the place.
