After a successful worldwide premiere in April 2021 on Netflix, Shadow and Bone is all set for a sequel. It is inspired by Fantasy author Leigh Bardugo’s trilogy of the same name and her Six of Crows duology. The fantasy series is finally moving and the fans will witness a new chapter. Recently, Netflix made an announcement that the production for Shadow and Bone Season 2 will begin soon. On top of that, four major actors will be joining the sequel.

The plot develops around Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, a young cartographer who discovers that she has powers, which automatically makes her a member of a magical community called Grisha. General Aleksander Kirigan (Ben Barnes), the leader of the Second Army, became interested in Alian’s powers. However, at the end of the show, the general reveals his true colors.

Viewers are mesmerized by the level of fantasy in the series, and Bardugo is thrilled, as they adapted the novel as a Netflix show. In conversation with Elle, she says, “It was so emotional. I mean, I am an easy crier. The cameo was chosen based on when I was going to be on set and what the schedule was. I got so lucky because I got to be in the scene that I remember writing so clearly. I remember sitting there thinking, ‘Okay, what is the choreography of this? How are the Grisha going to enter? Where is everybody in this room?’ And I wrote those stories at a time in my life that was so dark, where I had no idea that I was ever going to finish a single book, let alone that I would write seven books in this world.”

The overwhelmingly positive reviews from both audiences and critics made Netflix renew another season.

When will Shadow and Bone Season 2 hit Netflix?

Netflix has not announced an official date for Season 2. The platform revealed that production will begin in Budapest on January 12th, 2022.

Season 2 of Shadow and Bone will comprise eight episodes with a one-hour duration episode.

The cast of Season 2 includes Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Ben Barnes as General Aleksander Kirigan, Archie Renaux as Mal, Freddy Carter as Kaz, Amita Suman as Inej, Kit Young as Jesper, Danielle Galligan as Nina, Calahan Skogman as Matthias, Sujaya Dasgupta as Zoya, Julian Kostov as Fedyor, Daisy Head as Genya, and Dean Lennox Kelly as Pekka Rollins. All these characters will return from Season 1.

The new cast for Season 2 includes Anna Leong Brophy (Traces) will play Tamar Kir-Bataar, Jack Wolfe (The Witcher) will play Wylan Hendriks, Lewis Tan (Mortal Kombat) will play Tolya Yul-Bataar, and Patrick Gibson (The OA) will play Nikolai Lantsov.

 What will happen in Shadow and Bone Season 2?

As Netflix hasn’t released the official synopsis of Season 2, we can predict the plot by the description of the second book of Shadow and Bone, which reads, “To save her country, Alina will have to choose between her power and the love she thought would always be her shelter. No victory can come without sacrifice–and only she can face the oncoming storm.”
