Attack on Titan is one of the best new-generation anime to air during the past decade. The franchise has been a fixation among fans across multiple mediums simply because it ticks almost every box that makes a great anime- be it in terms of action, comedy, mystery, good animation, good music, or jaw-dropping moments. And now, the studio that brought this unforgettable series to life is gearing up to sprinkle some of that same magic on the streaming giant, Netflix, with a remake of yet another beloved '90s classic.

Netflix has just dropped the first trailer for the playful retro classic, Ranma ½ reboot, just weeks after its surprise announcement.

In June, Netflix shared that Rumiko Takahashi’s Ranma ½ is preparing for a reboot with an announcement video. The announcement video featured a slideshow of panels from the manga, and the streaming service promised to unveil more information regarding the adaptation soon. Now, with a brand-new trailer, MAPPA studio has announced that the Ranma ½ series adaptation will be released on Saturday, October 5, in Japan, and will arrive on its streaming home, Netflix, immediately after the broadcast.

The announcement also included the revelation of the entire cast, crew, and makers associated with the upcoming Netflix show. It turns out Kōnosuke Uda, who was also behind the cameras for one of the hottest Netflix live-action adaptations last year, will direct Ranma ½. It was also revealed on the official website for Ranma ½ that all the fan-favorite original characters will be returning with, of course, some mild modernization that might still do a decent job of staying true to Rumiko Takahashi’s manga artwork.

The Netflix show, however, has some massive shoes to fill. Even so, the upcoming reboot could fix a lot of problems that fans had with the original anime.

Changes that Netflix’s Ranma ½ can bring for the better

The original Ranma ½ anime took some heat for changing a lot of the character dynamics, which painted a misleading picture of what the series was really about. One huge example of this was how Ranma was made out to be much nicer, while Akane was shown as more aggressive than intended. The Ranma ½ reboot will have a golden opportunity to bring the characters more in line with their true manga counterparts, which would be a boon for both long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Additionally, the original anime left a lot to be desired by not resolving the relationship drama, especially between Ranma and Akane. So the reboot should cover the entire story instead and give it the closure it desperately needs. However, whether the Netflix adaptation does justice to the original anime or goes above and beyond will only be clear once it is released this fall.
