A month has passed and One Piece viewership numbers are still coming in. Netflix finally managed to win over fans as well as the confidence of its own executives with the live-action. After bracing through the six-year-long grind to get One Piece to its current status, its showrunner, Steven Maeda, has high hopes of turning the fortunes over of another anime. The live-action genre has livened up ever so remarkably that it certainly could become a possibility.

Notably, his current show has already been greenlit for season two. While Maeda is certainly working on it, his plans could usher some excitement for anime fans.

Steven Maeda wants to adapt Tatsuya Endo’s manga

Ushering to the same theme where global peace lies under threat, One Piece and Spy x Family, both have manga and anime precedents. The Tatsuya Endo manga is a unique, entertaining, and wholesome series that is widely beloved as manga and anime. As it awaits the release of season two of its anime side, Steven Maeda has ushered some hope for it. In an interview with Comicbook, the One Piece showrunner admitted, “I love Spy X Family so much.”

He further went on to add that although difficult, getting the show to crossover into live-action would certainly be a delight to witness. The manga anime follows the tales of Twilight, a spy who builds a fake family to investigate his leads. The setting of a cold war, tinge of telepathy, comedy, action, and drama make it an entertaining piece. As already proven with One Piece, Maeda indeed does have the necessary skills and Netflix, the budget, to pull his vision off.

As Maeda plans on his next ventures, fans are already breathlessly awaiting season two of Monkey D. Luffy’s adventures.

One Piece Season 2 is set to introduce new characters and arcs

After their record-shattering Netflix debut, the Straw Hat pirates are all but set for their next adventure. The Eiichiro Oda-helmed series will probably span across the Arabasta saga for its return. Along with this, improving on the scale and world-building from the first season are among its priorities. Season two shall also introduce several new characters to the show, including Smoker, the next big-bad.

News of the casting of Jamie Lee Curtis as Dr. Kureha is also on the fly. The renewal shall also consist of fifteen episodes and have the cast back to reprise their acclaimed roles. Oda made the announcement for the next season in a special video. While specific details have not yet been revealed, an expansive creative work seems to be in the works, especially considering the grand reception and reputation it has to live up to.
