Natalie Portman’s Character in the Professional Became Her Worst Nightmare
Natalie Portman’s film debut The Professional is still as impressive as it was in 1994. The Professional is an action thriller English language French film, directed and written by Luc Besson. The film released in the UK, Australia, and the USA. The Professional is streaming on Netflix. The film was titled for the USA as The Professional, but for UK and Australia has titled as Leon.
Mathilda, played by a young Natalie Portman, has an unusual relationship with a hitman. Luc Besson love to do films that have the theme of tragedy and farce. The Professional, about a young girl who wants to become a hitman, and civilizes the hitman as she chooses him as her teacher.
The cast also includes Jean Reno as Leon, Gary Oldman as Norman Stansfield, Danny Aiello as Tony, Michael Badalucco as Mathilda’s father, Allen Greene as Margie Lando, Mathilda’s stepmother, Peter Appel as Malky, and Adam Busch as Manolo.

Netflix has recently tweeted at their official account about Natalie Portman’s impressive acting. A corrupt DEA officer killed the whole family of Mathilda. Now, she sticks up with Leon as a leech, hoping one day she will avenge her family. Portman has done amazing acting at such a young age. Natalie claimed, “The character is simultaneously discovering and developing her womanhood, her voice, and her desire. At that moment in my life, I too was discovering my womanhood, my own desire, and my own voice.”

But Portman’s experiences working in The Professional became a nightmare. At such a young age, she received a lot of positive critical reviews, but her experience turned into a horrific drama. At such a young age, the audience has sexualized her character. She claims that she is facing rape fantasy from her first fan mail. She says, “A countdown was started on my local radio show to my 18th birthday, euphemistically the date that I would be legal to sleep with. Movie reviewers talked about my budding breasts in reviews.”

It seems Luc Besson, has been inspired by the story of ‘Pygmalion’. In Pygmalion, a street person was become a changed man by introducing education in his life. Mathilda was that education in Leon’s life.
