Zach Bryan Shuts Down His X Handle, After a Posting Spree and Sheer Backlash for Ye and Taylor Swift Opinions

Published 09/18/2024, 10:36 PM EDT

Though the history books may not yet reflect this, there’s an unwritten rule in today’s music industry: Ye, formerly Kanye West, will forever drag a parade of controversy and a train of nostalgia that carries people who miss the old Ye. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s name is guaranteed to summon a thunderous roar from her devoted legions, a sound so deafening it drowns out any whiff of scandal that might dare approach. Another unsaid rule that should at this point be in social media guidelines is that a comparison between the two will likely end in a metaphorical blood bath, which equals X account deactivation in present times.

Perhaps due to his sheer honesty or misfortune of having an opinion at all, Zach Bryan has dipped a toe into the bubbling pot of arguably pop culture's biggest rivalry, only to find himself boiled alive by the scalding waters of social media outrage.

In what seemed to be a replica of Ye's 2016 model of going on social media rants and proceeding to either deactivate his account or get it deactivated, Zach Bryan too went on a ranting spree on his X account. However, in his rendition of what the Internet famously likes calling 'taking an L', Zach Bryan took his account off X. The culprit behind the entire ordeal was his tweet that implied he prefers Ye over Taylor Swift.

In what Bryan thought was a normal Tuesday tweet, where he posted about listening to 'Reborn' by Taylor Swift, but alas, not the 'Taylor's Version', the Swiftie fandom dubbed it as treason. Following this, Bryan, who was already in his 'missing Ye' era, went on to compare Swift and Ye, landing in a massive backlash for the country singer.

It is unclear whether Swifties' actions aggravated Zach Bryan to make his Taylor Swift vs Ye comparison, but he would not be the first or last to turn against the singer owing to her fandom.

Are Swifties turning into Taylor Swift's weakest point?

Given that music is subjective, and the industry runs on catering to different tastes, hence the influx of artists, it is unlikely that Taylor Swift who has won the favor of many critics time and again is disliked because of the music she makes. Moreover, unlike the rapper who claims to have made her famous, Swift does not have a history of making questionable statements, leaving her very intense fanbase as the only problem area.

Perhaps as a result of practicing their art to the point that it has become overbearingly good, Taylor Swift fans have the tendency to trample over everything, scandal or opinion, in their wake. And this year more than ever, the fandom's problematic tendencies have come to light, to the point that it has caused a rift between the community itself. Regardless, Zach Bryan's X account is unlikely to be the last to succumb to fan fury.
