Ye’s Woes Continue as His Sunday Service Loses Charity Status Right After He’s Hit with a New Lawsuit

Another day, another scandal. 2024 is truly looking up to be one of the worst years for Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. After having a bad taste from his contentious rants and the mixed, mostly underwhelming response to his ‘Vultures’ album- both volumes- the best way to live as a Ye fan today is to simply not care. But the unimpressive music rollout is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to signs of a potential downfall. The rapper has been drowning in one lawsuit after another and is tangled up in multiple legal messes.

Ye, recently, not just one, but got hit with two consecutive blows, the latest being him losing his Sunday Service's charity status.

Ye’s Sunday Service choir recently lost its charity status, which translated to losing its federal tax-exempt status after the rapper failed to file his returns for three consecutive years. The revocation date on the IRS website is listed as May 15, 2024. The choir first landed its charity status on December 12, 2021, and has since been hosting several exclusive, invite-only musical events featuring a gospel choir.

Ye shelled out a fortune of $50 million on Sunday Services during its first year, all of which came from the funds he had earmarked for Yeezy’s marketing. However, he has been pretty inactive with the choir since June 2023, which likely led to him forgetting all about filing returns. The last time Ye made an appearance at the service was when he showed up with his wife, Bianca Censori, in their not-so-surprising-anymore bizarre outfit. Nonetheless, this was only one of the many controversies Ye has faced this week.

Ye hosted ‘Vultures 2’ listening party in Los Angeles a few days back. While the party was a hit, where the rapper teased new music and also some long-awaited tracks, it did not stay that way. Shortly after the party, Ye faced a lawsuit from BackGrid USA Inc. and Backgrid London Ltd. for posting unauthorized photos from the event. The company is now demanding $150,000 per photo, along with injunctive relief and legal fees.

Ye is facing accusations of copyright infringement for sharing the photos, which supposedly cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost revenue per picture. Although fans have supported the rapper against this lawsuit, this new Sunday Service drama just adds to the pile of problems he is already dealing with.
