Ye’s ‘Vultures 2’ Labeled Worst of the Year as Music Critic Revisits 2024 Albums

Published 01/11/2025, 12:16 AM EST

As the groundswell of anticipation builds for Kanye West aka Ye’s ‘Bully,’ the specter of his unfinished opus, ‘Vultures,’ continues to lurk in the shadows. Fans’ concern that ‘Bully’ might mirror the meandering introspection of ‘Vultures’ have been murmuring in the background, while others worry that the new album’s reputation is taking a beating, quite literally, given its title. However, with the dawn of the new year, and Ye’s forthcoming projects taking center stage, ‘Vultures 2’ has faced a withering backlash from a music critic.

In a retrospective review of 2024’s albums, the critic crowned ‘Vultures 2’ the year’s biggest disappointment.

With an army of die-hard fans at his back, Ye seems invincible, but a formidable phalanx of skeptics remains arrayed against him at all times. Controversial music critic, Anthony Fantano, recently took to his Instagram to piece together the Top 10 Worst Albums of 2024, giving Ye and Ty Dolla $ign the crown at #1 with ‘Vultures 2.’ Fantano goes unhinged in his upside-down ranking, beginning with Meghan Trainor’s ‘Timeless,’ followed by 6IX9INE’s ‘Blackballed,’ and Tones and I’s ‘Beautifully Ordinary.’

On #7, Fantano positioned Machine Gun Kelly and Trippie Redd’s ‘Genre: Sadboy,’ succeeded by G-Eazy’s ‘Freakshow’ and Skillet’s ‘Revolution.’ While the critic gave Ian’s ‘Valedictorian’ a 5th position, Fantano hoped to club all his 2024 projects into the list. The last three bottom rankers include Lil Mabu’s ‘Young Genius,’ Falling in Reverse’s ‘Popular Monster, and Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s ‘Vultures 2.’ “The biggest, most unpolished turd that was forced upon the music-listening populace in the year,” Fantano concluded with a one-line review of the second volume.

Ye’s ‘Bully’ Earns a Reputation Too Close to Its Title as Fans’ Anticipation Turn Stale After ‘Vultures'

This is not Anthony Fantano’s maiden critique of Ye’s ‘Vultures’ series since he has previously faced blowback from the rapper’s disciples. However, crowning it “worst” per se has had no shortcomings on its success as Ye recently left fans in jaw-drops with a ‘Vultures’ movie trailer.

Ye leaves the world floored with Vultures The Movie trailer

Ye has mastered the art of surprise like no other musician, and his latest magician’s trick was dropping a shocking trailer of Vultures The Movie following the festive fireworks. The rapper recently took to his Instagram to take fans aback with a seemingly AI-made one-minute monochromatic clip with descriptors like “Thrilling,” “Chilling,” Sensoramic,” and “Vulgar” popping up on the screen throughout the eerie visual.

The trailer uses the Blues Brothers’ theme song as its soundtrack with AI versions of Ye, Ty Dolla $ign, and other ‘Vultures’ collaborators including Rich the Kid, Kodak Black, Playboi Carti, and Don Toliver appearing in the clip, firing guns. It also follows a similar lineage to ‘Vultures 2’ music videos of ‘Bomb’ and ‘530.’ Although a release date is up in the air, considering the frenzy it delivered with a mere teaser, Anthony Fantano’s negative review of ‘Vultures 2’ is definitely not the endgame for the series and 2025 is shifting high gears to show that.
