Ye’s Resurfaced Sly Jibe at Taylor Swift VMA Incident Has Fans Giggling Right Before the 2024 Awards Show
The VMAs are on the way, and, as always, fans are looking forward to more than just the accolades and honors. They are excited for fresh pop culture moments and spurts of drama that the internet can feed into the ever-turning wheel of content creation. While the popular music award show has consistently been a microcosm of pop culture of that era, no other controversy has been as wild as the one created by Ye, then known as Kanye West, at the 2009 VMAs- an event that many fans would argue truly put Taylor Swift on the map.
Ye’s mic-snatching from Taylor Swift is still looked back on as the reference point for the artists’ long-standing beef with each other. However, it is often forgotten how Ye tried to recreate the moment six years later at the 2015 Grammys. The ‘Donda’ rapper once again took to the stage to bat for Beyoncé as the songstress lost Album of the Year to Beck. However, just as he reached the microphone, he took a step back and retreated to his seat, turning the moment into a laugh-out-loud spectacle for everyone at the Grammys.

Ye and Swift’s infamous history with each other has further led to many more VMA moments. At the 2015 VMAs, which was months after the 2015 Grammy, everything came full circle as Swift presented Ye with the prestigious Video Vanguard Award, referencing the infamous “Imma let you finish” line. While the artists have never quite repaired their relationship, Ye's 2015 Grammy stunt continues to amuse the internet.

While everyone at the Grammys was seen roaring with laughter after Ye’s antics, it was the reaction of Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, and Beyoncé that was the most hilarious. Fans joked about the artists, writing, “jay’s face was like hell nah” and “Pharrell's face like: Jay it's going to happen again”. Many fans also took a dig at Taylor Swift and the idea of Ye making her famous from the VMA incident, saying, “Almost made him famous” and “Almost gave him a career.”
Not everyone found Ye cool, however. Some called out the ‘Graduation’ creator, saying, “How about they stop him from infringing on other people's moments?”. A fan even called Ye a “Desperate, problematic attention seeker.” Nonetheless, this one resurfacing clip has made fans nostalgic for the old Kanye West, as they wrote, “WE NEVER GETTING THE KANYA BACK”. Should Ye appear at the 2024 VMAs, fans might just be in for another jaw-dropping pop culture moment after years.
