The conversation around nepotism in Hollywood never seems to die down. For some, it is about unfair advantages; for others, it is about the integrity of the art form at stake; and, of course, some see it as little more than envy in disguise. Regardless, this ongoing debate has cast a shadow over many star kids over the years, who may or may not be both privileged and talented. Willow Smith is one of them who has been trying to prove her worth in an industry where the family name can be both a blessing and a burden. Still, she is pressing forward.

Perhaps, that is why Smith found such resonance in an empowering quote by Sigourney Weaver- so much so that she shared it with her fans.

Willow Smith recently took to her Instagram story to share a quote by actress Sigourney Weaver from the Venice Film Festival. Weaver, who was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, was asked on the same day- why she often portrays strong women on screen. Her response was simple yet profound- “I just play women, and women are strong.” Willow's sharing of the quote comes only a few months after her candid confession about being the child of the megastar, Will Smith, and the heavy expectations that come with that label.

Earlier this year, in an interview with Allure Magazine, Willow talked about the belief that she has everything handed to her on a silver platter because of her father, Will. This perception instilled a sense of "insecurity" in her, but it has also pushed her to work twice as hard to create her own space. She also touched on the alleged systemic racism that does not spare the Starkids either. Yet, despite her concerns about being written off as just another product of nepotism, Will Smith is seemingly not going to stop being her biggest supporter.

As Willow set sail on her literary journey earlier this year, her father spared no effort to cheer on his daughter.

Willow Smith launched her epic medieval fantasy series, Black Shield Maiden, on May 7 this year. While the book has since earned praise from critics, it was her biggest fan- papa Will Smith- who became her greatest source of encouragement. The I Am Legend star made sure to actively promote his rockstar daughter, sharing dates and venues of her book tour across his social media accounts. His pride as a father was also on full display at last year’s Coachella.

A heartwarming video of Will filming his children on stage, with pride, went viral after the festival. He later posted a video of himself enjoying his daughter’s performance on Instagram as well, with a caption, saying, "WILLOWCHELLA!!" While debates over the fairness of nepotism in the industry are unlikely to fade anytime soon, there is something universal about a parent’s love and support that transcends the noise.
