Kanye West slowly climbed his way up into the industry, so much so that he got branded as one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. The 50th-anniversary celebrations of hip-hop reminded fans how the Yeezy owner is the GOAT. They reminisced how Travis Scott surprised his fans at his concert in Pompeii, Italy, to the stellar introduction that Chris Rock gave when the ‘Donda’ singer released his album ‘Ye’ in Wyoming. In addition to the success of his musical career, the Donda Academy owner hit the charts with Yeezy sales, too.

Emerging back strong after his controversial year, one would think Ye smiles, reminiscing about his success. If the year hasn’t been up to the mark, maybe his fruitful time since the 2000s has. But strangely, the fans have rarely spotted the rapper sporting a smile, let alone a hearty laugh. But in what seems to be a one-in-a-million chance, a fan became the reason Ye burst out in a hearty laugh. 

Ye likes Perrier

In an extremely rare sighting, a pun had the ‘Runaway’ singer laughing and passing a friendly handshake. A fan approached the Yeezy owner and asked, “Ye, can I tell you a joke real quick?” Being a good sport, Ye quickly chimed in with a “Yeah, yeah.” The pun went, “Who’s Ye in Paris? Perri-ye (Perrier).” The contagious laugh that followed clearly showed how the ‘Graduation Day’ singer thoroughly enjoyed the famous sparkling water reference. The French mineral water brand, Perrier, has a similar pronunciation to ‘Ye’, fitting perfectly with the pun.

Realizing what the pun meant, Ye immediately smiled and repeated, “Perrier, Perrier,” as if registering how ingenious this joke was. With a “Here you go, Perrier” later, seemed like the rapper handed over his fan a bottle of French sparkling water. Amused at the rare sighting of seeing the ‘Heartless’ singer laugh, a fan was curious to know if he would put that in a song. Moreover, the “Ye in Paris” pun is strikingly similar to his ‘Ni**as in Paris’ song.

While it is not surprising to watch one’s favorite artist indulge in normal human emotions, Ye is notorious for having a poker face, even on the red carpet. No matter what, cameras don’t seem to get the 24-time Grammy-winning artist even pass a smile.

Why Kanye West doesn’t smile much

The Yeezy owner made it a conscious choice to never smile in photos. In an inaugural show of The Daily Front Row‘s Fashion Awards in LA, the rapper opened up about the infamous smile. He gave the credit to an 1800s velvet-covered book which consisted of photos of people who weren’t sporting any smile whatsoever. They donned fancy clothes and looks great, but never once smiled.

When the paparazzi asked him why he was not smiling, the thought of not smiling made Ye smile. He felt like pictures with people smiling in them didn’t look “as cool.” Nevertheless, rare occurrences of the Yeezy owner smiling do get his fans more excited than usual.
