Ye may have begun his days in the music industry with freestyling and producing tracks for local artists, but with his hands held by John Monopoly, his kick-start of album releases began in 2004. Monopoly has famously been known for being West’s manager, but his foot in the music pedigree has far more duties adhered to. Aside from his management duties following their beat-making flare in high school days, Monopoly used to promote shows in Chicago before landing A&R gigs with Violator Management and Jive Records.
The 47-year-old entrepreneur was the person who made Ye cross paths with Jay-Z. Although the Chicago native started working in the record industry in the 1990s, Monopoly stepped out to explore the likes of fashion know-how by launching a brand called Hustle during the after-hours of the decade. Presently, he is also the chief strategy officer for the ca**abis brand known as Village.
Having made a close bond since the beginning of Ye’s career, the rapper also left no stone unturned to appreciate Monopoly, and back in 2019, he showed the same with a special gesture.
