Taylor Swift made jaws drop while receiving her 13th Grammy Award, saying, “My brand-new album comes out April 19". The anticipated album is already up for grabs for pre-order and pre-save on Swift's website, available in all formats from vinyl to digital. And when April 19th rolls around, it will be available for streaming to fans' heart's content on Apple Music and Spotify. 'The Tortured Poets Department' is packed with 16 fresh tracks, with four previously announced variations of the album and bonus tracks.
The choice of April 19 for the album release date has several points of reference, particularly to Taylor Swift’s ex, Joe Alwyn, as it coincides with the day she had dinner with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who subsequently unfollowed him. While this might seem like a faint clue, there are more compelling hints that almost confirm 'The Tortured Poets Department' revolves around Swift’s six-year relationship with the actor.
Out of all the theories and speculations regarding the upcoming album, the angle about Joe Alwyn and his break-up with the songstress is the most hyped one.

Taylor Swift has been piecing together 'The Tortured Poets Department' since 2022. This led to speculation that she might have written some of its content during her relationship with ex-partner Joe Alwyn. However, what truly convinced online detectives that the album would revolve around Alwyn was a WhatsApp group with a title eerily similar to that of Swift’s upcoming album.
In May 2022, Alwyn revealed to British GQ that he and Paul Mescal had a WhatsApp group called The Tortured Man Club. However, by December of the same year, both Alwyn and Mescal told Variety that they had ceased using the group, as they no longer felt "tortured". Interestingly, Swift's recent LA pop-up in partnership with Spotify also contained several easter eggs hinting at Joe Alwyn’s involvement. That said, what the album truly entails will be unveriled in just a few days!
