It is tough to keep up with Ye, aka Kanye West’s eccentricities. But it is even trickier to make sense of his social media posts. Whether he is sharing a picture of himself holding a yellow notepad that reads, “My account is not hacked,” or going on one of his legendary rants about entities he has beef with, the rapper seems dedicated to serving up a never-ending supply of meme fodder for the internet. Recently, he shared yet another video on his social media that is driving the internet wild.

It was the popular Good Boy, Bad Boy video by Bruce Nauman. But is Ye’s story really as creepy and bizarre as it seems? Or does it hold a deeper meaning as well?

Ye recently shared a couple of stories on Instagram, including the 1985 video installation by Bruce Nauman titled Good Boy, Bad Boy. It featured a man and a woman who became increasingly intense and angry as they repeated the same phrases to the camera. As soon as Ye dropped the video, fans assumed it was just another one of the rapper’s off-the-wall antics. That might not be true, though.

The experimental video on Ye's story aims to hit the viewer with a barrage of contradictory accusations, showing that words often carry more than one single, straightforward meaning. This modern art piece is meant to make its viewers creeped out. This is exactly what Bruce Nauman is known for. As an artist, he delved into the poetics of life’s absurdities and everyday banality. But this is not the first time Ye’s actions or statements, which seemed bizarre or absurd on the surface, have turned out to have deeper meanings.

Ye’s frenetic statements, absurd social media antics, along with his open battles with mental health, have led many to see him as just plain bizarre. Yet, in his music- even though not in his interviews- he often proved to be his own toughest critic. Despite being seen as an arrogant maniac, the rapper has shown a knack for taking a long, hard look in the mirror with a solid sense of self-awareness.

That said, it is still impossible to overlook the mountain of controversial comments he has made over the years, many of which have hurt the sentiments of various communities. Regardless of where people fall on the issue, and their opinions about Ye, it is undeniable that he has turned the music industry on its head and continues to inspire a wave of well-known artists even today.
