What Is ‘Alligator Boots’ by Ye? The Story Behind a Lost Passion Project
Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, is an exasperated farrago of ideas. It had come to notice long ago that music was only a medium for the Atlanta rapper to balance out his vast genius. Therefore, while he made it his priority in the early years, he soon began to venture out into designing, producing, and even preaching. However, in between all of this, perhaps the most Ye project of all got overlooked, Alligator Boots.
A forgotten fever dream of felt puppets and hip-hop, the show now lives on YouTube, where its lost pilot clip was released last night, as the world once again finds itself gobsmacked by what Ye can do when given a camera and a mic, or even puppets.

In a world where, despite the barrage of real-life sitcoms available, the most hilarious weapon of choice happens to be animated shows that are not afraid to make a parody on anyone or anything, imagine the impact of a puppet show where Ye had the creative rights. This imaginary tale almost came true in 2007, when Ye and Rhymefest collaborated for a Comedy Central show titled Alligator Boots. However, as per Wired's Oral History, Alligator Boots was canceled right after the first episode wrapped up in filming.
Given that Ye fans always have a way of poking around and trying to figure out what the rapper is up to, clips of the show have unofficially made rounds through the years. However, it was only recently that Ye's YouTube account posted a deleted clip starring Kim Kardashian as Princess Leia from Star Wars and himself as Storm Trooper, from the Pilot of Alligator Boots.
Having brought Ye and Kim Kardashian together professionally for the first time, the pop culture significance of the show has unleashed an investigation into the geniuses at play.

The short clip from the pilot stands testament to just the degree of unhinged Alligator Boots was supposed to be. However, what audiences do not realize is just how many big names were at play for this puppet show. Starting off big with Ye and Rhymefest, the latter of which still has only good things to say about Ye, the show had no trouble signing on more talented people. This also marked where sparks would first fly off between Ye and Kardashian while the legendary Jordan Peele worked as a writer.
While it is unclear if other great minds were at work in the writer's room, one look at the short clip from the Pilot speaks of the influence Peele had on the script. From the Star Wars theme to the absolutely unhinged intro, Alligator Boots is a rare masterpiece by Ye that was forgotten until yesterday.
