The groundbreaking debut that introduced female rap into the mainstream is ready to make waves again with its much-anticipated sequel. ‘Pink Friday’ by Nicki Minaj not only became a critic’s favorite in 2010 but also opened doors for her legacy. Now, over a decade later, Minaj is set to release ‘Pink Friday 2’ through Young Money Entertainment and Republic Records on Friday.

A day ahead of the release, Minaj decided to add fuel to fans’ excitement and dropped a teaser on X, formerly Twitter, after sharing the first lyrics from her album. The teaser kicked off with a nod to the “gag city update”. It then swiftly transitioned to announcing the arrival of ‘Pink Friday 2’. The video also provided a glimpse into a track from the album. Nicki Minaj’s upcoming fifth studio album is set to feature two supporting standout tracks, ‘Super Freaky Girl’ and ‘Last Time I Saw You’. 

‘Super Freaky Girl’ was a massive hit at the time of its release in 2022, which also received comparisons to Minaj’s 2014 single ‘Anaconda’. The song broke records and went on to debut and peak at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. Minaj performed  ‘Last Time I Saw You’ at this year’s VMAs, along with an unreleased track from ‘Pink Friday 2’. 

As soon as the teaser surfaced on the web, fans went over the top and flooded the comments with expressions of their excitement.

The term “Gag City” became popular after Nicki Minaj shared an artwork for her upcoming album ‘Pink Friday 2’. The album’s artwork showcased Minaj in a pink subway car soaring above a pink city shrouded in clouds. Fans were quick to come up with a term for the city- “Gag City”. This set off a trend on social media and sparked a flurry of memes and AI fan arts. In response to Minaj’s latest teaser, fans flooded the comments with playful references to “Gag City.“

They also referred to the rapper as “mother” and expressed how excited they were for the upcoming release. 

Fans shared hilarious GIFs and AI artworks in response to the thrilling teaser, calling the rapper the “President of Gag City“.

Considering the responses from fans, it is safe to say that the upcoming release will be nothing short of a chartbuster. The album was initially scheduled for an October release and then pushed back to November. After quite a few delays and postponement, it is finally hitting the airwaves on the eighth of December!
