The Weeknd's 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' just snagged the crown, snatching the biggest first-week US unit sales debut for any album since Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' hit the scene. And the timing of this? Well, this chart-topping triumph arrived the same day the Kansas City Chiefs, the team Swift famously cheers for with her beau Travis Kelce wearing the jersey, suffered a tough Super Bowl loss.

For Swift, it seemed like a day of double disappointment, with both her album's reign challenged and her team's Super Bowl hopes dashed. This confirms The Weeknd's powerful impact on the music scene.  His dedicated fanbase successfully pushed 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' to the top, solidifying his continued relevance and artistic evolution.  While Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' held its position at the forefront of the charts, The Weeknd's strong arrival with the 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' album signals a possible shift in the pop scene.

For the longest time, with the most prominent female artists dropping new music and making grand comebacks, the ball mostly remained in Taylor Swift's hand. However, the recent shift in the tectonic plates is making audiences re-evaluate, if this was perhaps the result of The Weeknd's long slumber.

The Weeknd's Hurry Up Tomorrow is more than just an album

The Weeknd's 'Hurry Up Tomorrow' is not only an album but a whole cinematic experience waiting to be unfolded with Lionsgate reportedly taking it onto the big screen as a film directed by Trey Edward Shults and starring The Weeknd himself, besides Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. This suspense thriller, set for release on 16 May, 2025 will feature music from the album, along with the themes of the story. Further, the singer in an interview with Variety, hinted at a likely move away from the Weeknd identity, suggesting a desire for new artistic challenges.
