“We need to stop…” – Taylor Swift’s ‘Cold’ Reaction to Jo Koy Draws ‘The View’ Hosts’ Criticism
Taylor Swift found herself as the lady of the night at the 2024 81st Golden Globes Awards. The singer’s nomination for Best Cinematic and Box Office Achievement for The Eras Tour came across as a major win to her legacy despite it not winning the nod. However, the singer became the talking point soon into the event following a Travis Kelce-referenced NFL joke by host Jo Koy. Soon after, her unimpressed reactions to the comment went abuzz and a few hours later now, it started to draw even bigger attention.
ABC’s daytime talk show The View took its time to craft a response to the singer’s reaction as well as providing an insight on Koy.

After marking an absence in the 2023 edition, Taylor Swift landed in elegance with a custom-made Gucci gown at the 2204 Golden Globes Awards. However, a little into the event, the host, Jo Koy, dropped a joke on the NFL’s rampant spotlight on the singer during her appearances. In response, the 34-year-old put up a straight face while sipping her drink, throwing off a somewhat cold response. Taking note of it, The View hosts, as reported by People, defended Jo Koy with Sara Haines asking Swift to “Just smile”.
The hosts’ point of discussion stressed the pressure on Koy to deliver. An Oscar host herself, Haines took the view that comedians stood as “national treasures” and, while presenting, had to be wary of several situations. “We need to stop binding them in, fencing them in,” the co-host remarked on artists as Koy made to host an event of such stature. Yet, many pointed out that Swift’s reaction simply stood as neutral so as not to attract much attention.
Regardless, the bullet was out of the barrel and many pointed out the host’s lack of experience for the event.
Jo Koy finds sympathy even as he acknowledged backlash
The View hosts’ comments on Jo Koy hosting the Golden Globes found resonance. “I think he’s such an inherently nice person that doing more of a roast is not natural for him,” the show’s co-hosts summarized the comedian’s case for the hosting. Meanwhile, many on social media also brought out the same facet while feeling that his jokes landed flat.

In his remarks, soon after the event, Jo Koy acknowledged the backlash even as he deemed Taylor Swift reacting to him as “cute”. Interestingly, the Golden Globes marked the first major awards show hosted by the comedian. Rather, Koy has found more resonance as a stand-up artist with jokes centered around his Filipino identity.
