Kanye West might be one of the world’s most controversial rappers. However, that was not always the case. While the star has been getting heat over his unsavory opinions, album delays, and his summer trip to Italy, there were days when that was not how it was. While he sure has many musical accolades, among them is also a title that the artist received from an esteemed magazine in 2010.

With Taylor Swift coveting many iconic awards and titles this year from the VMAs, the Grammys, and even Time magazine, many fans are wondering if the 46-year-old had ever crossed that major feat.

Was Kanye West ever Time’s Person of the Year?

Over the years, Kanye West has won various awards for his lyrical genius and his creativity. However, one thing that the rapper has failed to accomplish is getting named Time’s Person of the Year. While he may not have achieved what Taylor Swift just did, Ye did once get mentioned on a list by the very same publication. Back in 2010, he was put on the list of People Who Mattered.

Unfortunately for him, that was the year Mark Zuckerberg ended up being on the cover of the magazine. While the Yeezy creator did wind up on that list, it was not the same as the pop sensation’s recent takeover. However, there were a few factors that could have played into it. One of them was his meltdown at the 2009 VMAs when he snatched the mic away from Swift after she won the Best Female Video award that year.

The ‘All Mine’ rapper might not have received the iconic title, but he still did end up on another list that mattered. While Ye did not make it onto the cover of the 2010 Time issue, he did wind up on it 5 years before.

Although Kanye West was never named Time’s Person of the Year, he did end up getting one of the biggest compliments back in 2005. They were the first mainstream magazines to pay attention to him and even called him “the smartest man in pop music.” While their feelings about the rapper may have changed over time, they still had him on the cover a few more times after that.

Just five years later, in 2015, he graced the cover of the publication again. However, this time was one of The World’s Most Influential People. It even had an article titled Kanye West that was written by none other than the Tesla creator, Elon Musk.
