"Unique status"- Barack Obama Shows Love for Kendrick Lamar While Sharing His Take on the Big Three in Rap
The debate over who the greatest rapper of all time is has been going strong since rap first emerged. These days, however, the conversation mostly revolves around the Big Three- Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and J. Cole. Fans constantly put these three in the ring against each other to see who comes out on top as the definitive GOAT of rap, leading to one of the biggest wars seen in many years back in April. And now, former President Barack Obama has also shared his thoughts on the matter.
Obama sang Lamar’s praises, hinting about which side he might have been on during the diss showdown that took place earlier this year.

Barack Obama has known Kendrick Lamar for quite some time. Therefore, when he was asked about the ongoing discussion surrounding the Big Three in rap during VicBlends’ DeepCut podcast, the 63-year-old was full of praise for the rapper. Obama expressed that he believes, “Kendrick has a unique status right now,” regardless of his rap feud with Drake this summer. “He’s not just gifted; he’s serious about the message,” Obama added.
It turns out that Lamar and Obama have developed a pretty close friendship and often discuss "fatherhood" whenever they get together. The politician also took a moment to give a shoutout to J. Cole, who stepped away from the drama after releasing his track ‘7 Minute Drill.’ The former US leader mentioned, “I just talked to J. Cole last week. J is very high on the list.” Although Obama is a political leader, he has frequently found himself involved in the rap world, sometimes even getting caught up in feuds.
One of Obama’s most well-known feuds has been with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, which flared up once again earlier this year.

Ye and Barack Obama have had quite a bit to say about each other over the years. It all started when Obama called Ye “a jack***” after his infamous mic-snatching incident with Taylor Swift in 2009. Their relationship then took a turn with a growing bond, but Ye later revealed in 2022 that his “bond” with Obama “faded” when he stopped saying what he “was supposed to say as a rapper.” Their on-again, off-again friendship has intrigued many fans.
This year, however, it became painfully clear that these two are not exactly on the path to reconciliation after Ye made a nasty comment about Michelle Obama on The Download Podcast. This stirred up a lot of backlash on social media, and fans criticized the ‘Donda’ rapper for his remark. Now it seems, Kendrick Lamar might just be the only thing that brings Obama and Ye back to the same page.
