The pop star has, in a way, revolutionized modern pop music with her empowering lyrics and electrifying performances, while also making an entry into the billionaire club. Nonetheless, like every artist out there, the country girl turned pop icon has had her fair share of moments when she questioned whether she could really make a difference in the world.

In an interview over a decade ago, Taylor Swift opened up about her vulnerabilities, making it clear that she had no clue about the superstar she would evolve into today.

In 2012, Taylor Swift sat down with Rolling Stone following the success of her not-so-country single 'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,’ which became her first Number One Hot 100 hit. However, achieving this milestone only heightened her anxieties about what was to come in the future. Ahead of the release of ‘Red’, the songstress shared that one thing she had always been “terrified” of: all the highs would someday come crashing down and will “end in one day”. 

“Part of the fear comes from loving this so much and not wanting to lose it”, said the 'Cruel Summer' artist. In fact, Swift came close to manifesting the self-fulfilling prophecy during her 2010 Grammy performance. Stricken with stage fright, her voice wavered during an uneasy duet with Stevie Nicks. Critics instantly labeled her as an AutoTune-dependent artist unable to deliver live vocals. Recalling the experience, Swift confessed, "I had a bad night." However, it was not the only "bad night" she mentioned in that interview.

Taylor Swift also recalled one of the most iconic moments in her career: the 2009 VMAs, an event that continues to be celebrated as a golden moment in pop culture history.

Taylor Swift reflected on the moment when Ye, formerly known as Kanye West infamously snatched her microphone at the 2009 VMAs. Though fans continue to dwell on that incident, it taught a valuable lesson to the pop star. She realized that life, including her own, is unpredictable and beyond control. “Just because you make a good plan, does not mean that’s what’s gonna happen", said the now 34-year-old. However, the night was not just challenging for Swift.

Even Ye himself admitted, in an interview with Jay Leno, that the 24 hours after the VMAs had been incredibly challenging for him. “It was just very rude, period, I’d like to apologize to her in person”, said the ‘Donda’ rapper. The hitmaker also added that he had to deal with hurt and extreme shame for hurting Taylor Swift. Despite Swift's fears proving groundless today, the beef from the 2009 incident still simmers between the artists.
