Anyone who keeps an eye on the hip-hop world knows how tiresome it is to watch fans endlessly debating who is the ‘greatest of all time’. From Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and Travis Scott, to Jay-Z and Nas, every fanbase loves to pit their favorite rappers against one another in the race for the ‘GOAT’ crown. But it is also this competitiveness and fiery discussions that make hip-hop fun. And just like that, a segment of hip-hop enthusiasts has thrown themselves into the age-old debate over the industry’s top rappers.

RapTV on Instagram initiated the debate by comparing some top rappers head-to-head, figuring out who is greater than whom. The page, as per a listing, crowned Travis Scott over Ye, The Weeknd over Frank Ocean, Lil Wayne over Eminem, and J. Cole over the late Tupac Shakur. All these artists have left their mark on the sound and culture through their music, influence, fashion, and distinct personas. However, it was surprising not to see the two most hotly debated rappers of recent times on the list- Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

Drake and Kendrick Lamar were the only mainstream rappers to lock horns in an actual rap beef in 2024. And a lot has been said about who is better among the two, although the majority still stands with the Pulitzer winner. Nonetheless, the RapTV's comparisons of top rappers have sparked some heated discussions on social media among hip-hop aficionados.

One of the most debatable comparisons among the four was between Travis Scott and Ye. While some fans said, “There is no Travis Scott without Kanye West,” others commented, “Travis is better.” The majority agreed with the third comparison, saying, "Only the Wayne one is true”. Choosing The Weeknd over Frank Ocean was also controversial, as there were some very divisive opinions in the comments.

While some fans wrote, “Weeknd is better,” others felt that “Frank is MILES above The Weeknd.” However, it was the J. Cole and Tupac Shakur comparison that led fans to believe this post was a complete “rage bait,” with many asking, “Why is this even a discussion?” and “Why are we comparing them?” Many fans also brought up Drake and Kendrick Lamar in the discussion. All in all, this debate underscored once again that the hip-hop world is a battleground of polarized opinions, and the fandom can never reach a unanimous verdict.
