This $60K Relic From Ye and Jay-Z’s ‘Otis’ Is Now Up on Display for Fans in Los Angeles

The latest memory surrounding Ye aka Kanye West and Jay-Z is far from what it was in the 90s or the early 2000s. But before the clouds took over, they were the undisputed duo, no questions asked. Despite the differences, they were once the pioneers who took hip-hop to its golden age, dropping bangers so often that they still slap on every playlist. One of their hardest and critically acclaimed collaborations was for the track, ‘Otis.’

While hip-hop still boasts about the song like an award in itself, a $60,000 piece of history from that song has gone up for display in the City of Angels like a trophy for hip-hop’s legacy.

According to a recent report by Jalopnik, the chopped-up Maybach 57S from Mr. West and Jay-Z’s ‘Otis’ music video worth $60,000 is now exhibited at the Los Angeles Auto Show by West Coast Customs. The track belongs to the pair’s record-breaking collaborative album, ‘Watch the Throne,’ which sampled Otis Redding’s ‘Try a Little Tenderness’ music video for their track. The music video was directed by Spike Jonze and hit the shelves on August 11, 2011.

In the music video, Ye and Jay-Z are seen severing and modifying the Maybach with saws, chains, and other tools before pulling up with a drift around a shipping yard. The car was reportedly sold as part of Phillips de Pury & Co’s New York Contemporary Art Evening auction in 2012, where the estimated price of $100,000-$150,000 was sliced down to $60,000. This Maybach 57s reportedly has a retail price three times the count.

Although the outlet could not pinpoint the whereabouts of the Maybach 57s used in the ‘Otis’ music video, they did declare it looks exactly the same as it did back in the day. So much so that even the quirky details, like the hood doubling as trunk and vice versa, are still intact. While many thought it was just the track still breaking records like it never missed a beat, it turns out that even the items featured in it are turning heads like no time has passed.
