The Weeknd Joins Big League Alongside Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande for This Accolade
The Weeknd may have been caught up in a lot of controversies lately with the release and cancellation of his latest project, The Icon. But he is still one of the few artists who has managed to keep himself on every Spotify playlist. It is no surprise that he has one of the largest followings in the music industry. Ever since his first big hit, the artist’s songs have constantly been on the Top Charts, year after year. And it does not seem like that will be stopping anytime soon.
Most recently, the artist has outdone himself and has added his name to Spotify history, which landed him among some of the biggest names in the industry, like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and even Eminem.

Recently a fan page took to Twitter to announce that The Weeknd is officially the 10th artist to cross 70 million followers on Spotify. Thus ensuring that the ‘Blinding Lights’ singer will go down in Spotify history. Considering the number of fans he has, it is a little surprising that it took so long.
Being the 10th artist to follow suit, the ‘Starboy’ singer is only just at 70 million followers on Spotify. Whereas other artists that made the list before him have a significant head start. With Ed Sheeran leading the pack with 114.2 million followers, it is evident that The Weeknd may have some catching up to do.
Even though this is a huge achievement, The Weeknd has already racked up quite a few accomplishments this year.
The Weeknd will be etched into the industry’s history
The Weeknd, according to Guinness World Records, is considered to be the world’s most popular artist. With the highest streams on the platform, no other artist has come close to achieving his streaming success. The artist ended up setting a new Spotify listening record when he hit 100 million monthly listeners earlier this year. But that is not all; after that, the artist ended up breaking his own record with 112+ million monthly listeners.
