The Taylor Swift Effect: ‘Karma’ Singer Inspires a Legendary Comeback Following Her US Open Visit

If there is one thing the world has picked up from Cupid’s chronicler, Taylor Swift, it is that everything is fair game in love (and as she calls it, poetry.) Swift has always been the queen of crafting global love anthems, but since her heartstrings got tangled with Travis Kelce last year, their romance has transcended continents, leaving a trail of adoring fans in their wake. Their love story did not just make headlines—it practically camped out there. Having been reputed a cultural juggernaut, Kelce’s arrival has been like writing a thesis on the Taylor Swift effect, with the latest chapter making a comeback of epic proportions.

Although the effect was already strutting its stuff all year, this bounce-back was a little special.

The Taylor Swift effect is no joke, and Travis Kelce has every reason to keep his excitement cranked up to eleven. While the Eras Tour took a breather and Kelce got in the groove of his season, the lovebirds took the fun up by a notch at the US Open in New York last Sunday. After putting on an epic air guitar show to The Darkness’ ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love,’ Variety recently reported their sensational performance gave a whopping 70% boost to the track’s streams on Spotify.

Listeners raced to turn up the volume on the track particularly from midnight to noon. While the song saw an astonishing 70% spike in streams compared to the day before in the US, The Darkness enjoyed a nearly 65% boost in streams across the US and a 60% bump globally during the same period. It was like their own personal streaming party, only tried and tested by the omnipresent Taylor Swift effect.

The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins got in on the fun, dropping a TikTok on Monday where he gushed about Swift and Kelce’s epic singalong while sharing how Swift hosted him and his daughter wholeheartedly during the Zurich stop of her Eras Tour.

Justin Hawkins from The Darkness could not resist chiming in on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s heartfelt singalong in a TikTok post on Monday. He shared how Swift had rolled out the red carpet for him and his daughter during Zurich’s Eras Tour, putting them in a VIP spot flanked by Chris Rock on one side and Roger Federer on the other—making him feel like "dad of the year" right off the bat.

To top it off, Swift had even left a sweet letter for Hawkins in the VIP section, raving about how much she loves ‘I Believe in a Thing Called Love.’ Hawkins went from feeling like “dad of the year” to “dad of the century” after that delightful surprise. While the Eras Tour surprise was heartfelt, this massive streaming boost for The Darkness was something right off the charts for Hawkins. However, it was enough to vouch that the Taylor Swift effect needs no further proof!
