Holding a fanbase that could rival the population of many countries, her popularity knows no bounds. Moreover, with ten studio albums to her name, twelve Grammy Awards, and a ton of records, she stands arguably as one of America’s living icons of modern pop culture.

Taylor Swift holds the top ranks in the current cultural lexicon. Owing to her influence in the arts and the course of modern artistic industry, Harvard University offers a course on the ‘Wildest Dreams’ singer. However, taking to X, formerly Twitter, course instructor, Stephanie Burt shared her plea to the public. Posting that “Our Taylor Swift course at Harvard is so popular that we need additional teaching assistants,” Burt called out anyone who did “love Tay”.
Listed as ‘English 183ts. Taylor Swift and Her World’, the course, remains up for registrations for Harvard’s Spring Term 2024. The English Department’s course descriptions detailed an exploration of her music and lyrics’ cultural impact. Additionally, it would also look into pieces of literature that touch upon similar themes. Finally, the course would also help students understand fan culture, celebrity culture, adolescence, adulthood, and appropriation.
Incidentally, the timing of the faculty call rang in to coincide with the singer extending her influence to Australia.
Australia gets its share of the Eras Tour economy effect
In 2023, Taylor Swift even braved sweltering heatwave conditions and toured America to host a multitude of shows across several cities. The reward at the end of the entire tour would be a revenue worth over an estimated $4 billion. However, in collateral sales, the ‘Blank Space’ singer will generate anywhere north of $5.7 billion for US businesses alone.

In the meantime, just in the States, she stands to have generated over $4.5 billion in consumer spending. Now, with 2024 taking the tour to Australia in February, ticket and merchandise sales have sky-rocketed. Additionally, hotel bookings, food, and consumer businesses already stand with a haul of over $126 million. Australians are likely to spend over $326 million for the tours, once again, signifying her popularity.
