“The fraudulence is crazy”- Sabrina Carpenter Getting Grammy Nod for Best New Artist Over Tate McRae Has Fans Fuming
Sabrina Carpenter seems to be everywhere these days. The pop star and her latest hits have become part of the daily soundtrack of fans' lives. In the past year alone, Carpenter has joined forces with Taylor Swift on The Eras Tour, dropped three smash singles- 'Feather,' 'Espresso,' and 'Please Please Please', took Coachella by storm, rolled out her much-anticipated album 'Short n' Sweet' in August 2024, stole the show at the VMAs, and now she has even landed a Grammy nod for Best New Artist. But not everyone is supporting the Grammy nod.
Plenty of fans are raising their eyebrows over Sabrina Carpenter’s eligibility for Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys, considering she already has six albums under her belt. Recently, Tate McRae was left out of the Best New Artist race for the 2025 Grammys. The reason being- she had already submitted her name in the category three times over the past three years- and has, therefore, exhausted her chances.

The academy often skips over one-hit wonders to pick artists who could be a long player in the industry. And Sabrina Carpenter is one artist who has proved she is here to stay. Though she has been building momentum for a while, it was not until 'Espresso' that she really became mainstream. However, the fact that Carpenter is no new player in the industry has led to an unsettling feeling in fans.
Fans have taken to X to call out the Grammys for qualifying Sabrina Carpenter in the Best New Artist category.
Sabrina Carpenter's Grammy qualification divide fans
The Grammy Awards' eligibility is based on when an artist achieves a breakthrough into the public consciousness, rather than the number of releases they have had. Since Sabrina Carpenter has never been nominated for a Grammy before- a factor that typically leads to disqualification from Best New Artist- there is no reason she should be ruled out this time. Still, fans are sensing something off, and this qualification is not sitting right with them. “The fraudulence is crazy,” one fan said.
That said, plenty of fans have also jumped in to defend Carpenter against the fraud claims.

Even before Carpenter, there have been artists like Megan Thee Stallion, Chance the Rapper, and Victoria Monét who won in the category despite not being new artists, which makes the category's criteria a bit fuzzy. So, it is definitely possible that Sabrina Carpenter could be nominated in the category and might even take home the award next year.
